SCCYC – Celebrating 25 Years!

SCCYC was established on 13th July 1996, to provide Sikh specific support to the Sikhs of Northampton.  25 years on, SCCYC has been blessed to provide diverse and critical services to the wider communities of the Town.

The Freedom of the Borough is the highest honour that a Council can bestow, and the tradition is maintained as a means whereby public recognition may be given to the recipients as an expression of the highest esteem in which they are held by the Council and people of the Borough.

Northampton Borough Council held an extraordinary meeting in which they selected SGSS Gurdwara and SCCYC for the Freedom of the Borough Award, along with the NHS!  The recognition was for long standing, eminent and diverse services to the people of the Town, services such as support, poverty alleviation, wellbeing, education, social and heritage activities.

The Mayor of Northampton, Councillor Rufia Ashraf presented the award to the Sikh Community Trustees on July 11th.

Amarjit Singh Atwal (Trustee) said “It’s a great honour for our charities to receive this prestigious award in recognition of the services offered to the residents of Northamptonshire for many decades. We would like to take this opportunity to thank those who nominated us for this award: our partners, supporters, donors, funders, and our staff and volunteers who deliver these services”.
