The organization provides scholarships to qualified high school students who meet a minimum GPA requirement and have received acceptance into a four-year college. Population(s) Served Students Economically disadvantaged, low-income, and poor people Budget $10,000 In our daily lives, many of us take for granted, basic personal hygiene items like soap, shampoo and deodorant. For others, donations such as these help children attend school feeling fresh and accepted in their environments. Last year, the Sikh Women’s Association initiated and organized a community-wide drive to supply the Bakersfield Homeless Shelter with personal hygiene items, clothing and books for youth. The Association has additionally taken children from the local shelter to watch a movie at the theatre; an opportunity most of these children experienced for the very first time.
