Dignity at work, period. #PeriodDignity

Project/s Description/s

Despite being one of the richest countries in the world, many women resort to using toilet paper to manage their menstrual cycle. Let that sink in for a moment. We use toilet paper in the UK to manage our periods. Binti International believes that normalising the menstrual conversation is the key to eradicating period stigma. PERIOD STIGMA We are doing this with a marketing campaign using stickers and posters for organisations who openly support people and provide access to free period products. The stickers are used akin to the ‘credit cards accepted’ stickers placed on doors and windows of businesses that show free period products are available. We believe that Binti’s period dignity campaign should become policy for all organisations to create a societal shift in the period conversation whilst smashing period shame. PROVISION OF PADS To help an organisation get started with the Dignity at Work campaign we provide an agreed amount of discounted period products. In some cases and where budget allow we can donate a selected amount for those dealing with vulnerable communities. PAY IT FORWARD We provide collection bins for those organisations that have public footfall to encourage their customers and visitors to donate period products. It really is an effective way to bridge the gap until you can see what your budget for free period products should be. IN THE WORKPLACE Sign up to our Period Policy and provide everything that you need to create a working environment that your staff will thank you for. Binti can help you transition through the change with menstrual health workshops which help to engage staff in the implementation of this policy. A ground-breaking survey by TOTM in February 2020, revealed the impact of not having period products in the workplace. The survey found that women have used toilet paper at work instead of period products. When asked how they felt in that situation, the results were - 80% said they worry about their period at work - 80% said their offices didn’t have a period product vending machine. - 76% said their period had disrupted their working day “We believe that Binti’s period dignity campaign should become policy for all organisations to provide free period products in all toilets for staff, and visitors. Expect period products everywhere and lets end period stigma".
