#COVID19 – Khalsa Foundation Australia helping International Students
Today’s international students are in a dire position: many have lost their jobs, but they are not eligible for Centrelink or the federal government’s Jobkeeper wage subsidy. From last 4 weeks, Khalsa Foundation Australia has stepped up their relief measures during this time of Coronavirus crisis. Starting with free cooked meals services for those isolated due to air travel, the organisation is now providing free essential groceries to International students in need. The organisation believes that there are so many people, particularly international students who don’t have enough to eat. Even if they can reach out to a few, they will consider it a job well done. The organisation has distributed more than 2500 packs so far. The pack includes rice, wheat flour, onions, potatoes, sugar, chickpeas, lentils, long-life milk, breakfast cereal, oats, noodles and some other goodies. Students who have a car and can pickup are welcomed to pickup these grocery packs from the warehouse of Gurdwara Sahib Craigieburn while for others, the organisation also drive everyday in different parts of Melbourne to deliver the packs. Khalsa Foundation has received an overwhelming response, particularly from international students.
