The legacy and tradition of ‘Langar’
A Sikh faith based concept of the sharing of a free blessed vegetarian meal to all – has been continuing around the world since the 15 Century, so it’s nothing new! Why serve strangers ? - people we have never met ? It’s simple - albeit on a larger scale!; Sikhs are encouraged to harness those qualities which help us live harmoniously ‘in God’s image’; Being able to serve and share food with the people you love is one of the most universal concepts because it’s at the root of our survival and it brings people together, we are able to share our culture and heritage through food. Coming together and sharing of a meal is the most communal and binding thing in almost every place in the world. It is through this collaboration that we can achieve real and positive change within our local community and a wider society.
